School Readiness

The Consortium identified a need for increased attention to the issue of school readiness in Norristown. We have been very fortunate to partner with the Norristown Area School District and the Montgomery County Penn State Cooperative Extension in our efforts to promote school readiness on behalf of Norristown’s children.

Why Norristown?
In our Montgomery County Early Care and Education Needs Assessment and Plan, Norristown was identified as community that could use support in its efforts to promote quality in its early care and education programs. As a result, our efforts to promote school readiness have begun in this school district.

What is Being Done?
With input from the Steering Committee, the Consortium held focus groups with Norristown’s Kindergarten teachers and child care providers. The results of these groups, in addition to information about school readiness gathered from other organizations, was used to create a statement about school readiness that is rooted in the needs of the Norristown community.

The Consortium has worked with the Norristown Area School District and the Montgomery County Penn State Cooperative Extension to turn this statement into a pamphlet for families and child care providers. Contact Leah Rayner to request a copy of the pamphlet.
